This Standard adopts EN 81-70:2018 with modifications for Australia, which specifies the minimum requirements for the safe and independent access and use of lifts by a wide range of persons, including persons with disabilities.

This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee ME-004 Lift Installations, to supersede AS 1735.12—1999.

The objective of this Standard is to specify the minimum requirements for the safe and independent access and use of lifts by a wide range of persons, including persons with disabilities.

This Standard is an adoption with national modifications and has been reproduced from EN 81-70:2018, Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts — Particular applications for passenger and goods passenger lift, Part 70: Accessibility to lifts for persons including persons with disability. The modifications are additional requirements and are set out in Appendices ZZ and ZA, which have been added at the end of the source text.
